In a recent D-Tools Cloud After Dark session, Customer Success Manager Mitch Scott, Head of Product Dave Kirn, and Product Manager Kimberly Craven walked integrators through the biggest news out of CEDIA Expo 2026 — where D-Tools Cloud brought the largest set of new capabilities it has ever introduced at a single show, and picked up Residential Systems Best of Show awards for two of them: Ask D-Tools and Quote Assist.

"So much of what you'll see tonight has been shaped by your feedback," Scott told attendees, "and we don't take that for granted."

Ask D-Tools: Query Your Own Data in Plain Language

Rather than building hundreds of custom dashboards to match how every team works differently, D-Tools Cloud introduced Ask D-Tools — an AI assistant built directly into the platform that lets users ask questions about their own data conversationally, in plain language.

Ask D-Tools works in three steps: a user asks a question, D-Tools Cloud already aware of what page or project they're viewing; the answer comes back as a narrative, table, or chart that can be clicked into and exported; and the tool learns from feedback over time. It can also answer how-to questions directly from D-Tools' Help Center, returning a sourced link rather than requiring users to search separately.

In the live demonstration, asking "What's the health of my business?" returned both a narrative summary and an interactive snapshot pulling pipeline, projects, procurement, and billing data together from the user's own account. A follow-up question — which active projects are most at risk across tasks, procurement, inventory, and change orders — returned a prioritized, exportable list with underlying reasoning.

Ask D-Tools is available now at no additional cost. Admins can enable it per user under Settings → Users and Permissions, including a separate toggle for outside AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT to query a tenant's data via MCP access.

Quote Assist: From Meeting Notes to a Working Quote

Quote Assist addresses one of the most common requests the team hears — a faster way to start a quote when a job arrives as a site survey, drawings, or a page of walkthrough notes. Described by Kirn as going "from conversational to quote," the tool takes in source material — notes, emails, plans, drawings, meeting transcripts — and generates an editable quote organized by room and system, matched against a user's existing catalog or the D-Tools library.

Critically, Quote Assist isn't generating an AI proposal from scratch; it's analyzing documentation integrators already have and turning it into structured project data, with confirmation steps built in rather than silent guessing. Matched products are flagged by confidence level — direct matches apply automatically, close matches are surfaced for review, and anything unmatched can be searched manually — and every confirmed match is remembered for future quotes.

Quote Assist is currently in early access. Interested integrators can contact their account manager for access.

Kirn also gave a preview of Proposal Studio, a next-generation proposal template that uses AI and natural language to generate and iteratively refine proposal imagery — shown live generating a custom cover photo and "who we are" page image purely from voice and chat prompts. Proposal Studio entered early access the week of the session and is expected to move toward general release within the next two months.

Accounting V2: Two-Way Sync and Revenue Recognition

Accounting V2 is a ground-up rebuild of how D-Tools Cloud integrates with accounting systems, rolling out in three phases. Phase one, nearing completion and entering beta, brings real-time two-way sync with QuickBooks Online, a full audit log, and a review queue for resolving sync conflicts. Phase two introduces revenue recognition functionality, available to all users once released. Phase three extends the same sync and improvement work to Xero, along with additional accounting enhancements drawn from customer requests.

"V2 has everything V1 has, plus more," Craven explained. "You don't have to worry about losing functionality."

In the demonstration, Craven showed how each synced entity — accounts, invoicing, purchase orders, catalog items, and more — can have sync direction, allowed operations, and conflict resolution configured independently, with a dedicated review queue and audit log for every individual record. She also previewed the upcoming revenue recognition workflow, which introduces requests for payment and delivery invoices tied to a project's installation status, automatically moving funds from deferred revenue to recognized revenue as items are delivered.

Integrators interested in joining the Accounting V2 beta can reach out to their account manager; D-Tools will provide individual onboarding along with a sandbox environment to test the integration without affecting live accounting data.

From the Q&A

Attendee questions touched on several areas the team plans to continue developing: reportable gross margin data at the project and change-order level (addressable today through Ask D-Tools or an LLM connector for custom calculations), support for additional AI models beyond the two currently prioritized, expanded "light CRM" functionality for integrators, subcontractor labor purchase orders, and a simplified "quick quote" workflow for straightforward, no-approval-process sales.

All three features discussed are either available now or open for early access and beta signup. Integrators interested in Quote Assist or the Accounting V2 beta can reach out to their D-Tools account manager, and product team office hours are held every other Monday from 1 to 2 PM Eastern for anyone with follow-up questions.
