When Headroom Productions set up audio infrastructure for Survivor Québec in Panama's remote Pearl Islands, there was no room for failure. Every tribal council, every immunity challenge, and every reaction shot had to be captured perfectly the first time. The Montreal-based broadcast audio specialist built its solution around a Dante network with a switching backbone of NETGEAR M4250 AV Line switches, deployed across a field rack near the game area and a control room managing production communications.

The conditions were unforgiving: daily temperatures above 104°F, tidal swings of more than four meters, and all equipment transported by speedboat between island locations. The network had to be built, commissioned, and torn down every day, surviving salt water, sand, humidity, and constant handling without compromise. Two Turtle AV Mineola 8×8 Dante Audio Bridges anchored either end of the system - one in the field rack near the game area, connected back to the main system via fiber, and one in the control room. Wireless receive platforms from Shure, Wisycom, and Sennheiser all fed into the Dante network through the NETGEAR AV switches, aggregating audio for boom operators, wireless transmitters, and backup recording paths.

According to Jean-Sébastien Roy, President of Headroom Productions and the network engineer on the show, switching to the M4250 with NETGEAR AV OS cut show prep time significantly and let technicians of any experience level handle daily setup, while the Engage controller's Master GUI remained available for finer configuration. The switches ran without failure from first day to last, through heat, humidity, and the daily grind of an outside broadcast environment - proof that field-proven AV networking can hold up even in television's harshest production conditions.
