This FAQ answers the questions integrators, manufacturers, and partners are asking about the D-Tools and Portal.io merger. It will be updated as new questions come in. For anything specific to your account or contract, your account team is always the fastest path.
About The Merger
Is this a merger or an acquisition?
Leadership on both sides sees this as a merger: two companies contributing leadership, product teams, and customer bases to one future, operating under D-Tools leadership. The combined company brings together the largest integrator network in the industry, backed by one team and one product vision.
Why now?
Both companies have spent years serving the same integrators from different angles. Portal.io built the leading proposal platform in the residential channel. D-Tools built the deepest workflow platform in the industry, backed by nearly three decades of category leadership. Bringing them together gives integrators one team, one product portfolio, and one product vision moving forward.
When was this decided?
G Paul Hess and Kirk Chisholm first met in March 2026 to discuss what a combination could look like. Diligence and formal negotiation followed, and the transaction closes with this announcement.
Who is running the combined company?
G Paul Hess continues as Chief Executive Officer. Kirk Chisholm, founder and CEO of Portal.io, joins as Chief Product Officer, with responsibility for the product portfolio across all three platforms. Josh Willits, Portal.io’s Chief Operating Officer, will serve as Head of Portal.io, continuing to lead the Portal business unit.
Is Portal.io changing its name?
Portal.io continues as Portal.io, operating as a product line within the combined company.
Where will the combined company be based?
D-Tools is headquartered in Reno, Nevada. Both teams operate as a distributed, fully remote, global workforce. Neither team is being relocated as a result of this combination.
Product Continuity
Will my Portal.io subscription continue as it is today?
Yes. All Portal.io subscriptions continue on their current terms. Your login, your data, your workflows, your integrations, and your support team all remain the same. Nothing about your day-to-day changes on Day 1.
Will Portal.io be discontinued?
No. There are no plans to end-of-life Portal.io. The Portal.io team continues to develop and support the product, and Portal.io continues to serve the integrators who love it for its speed and simplicity on proposals.
Will D-Tools Cloud be discontinued?
No. There are no plans to end-of-life D-Tools Cloud. It continues as the SaaS platform for integrators who need depth across their whole operation, developed and supported by the same team.
Will D-Tools SI be discontinued?
No. There are no plans to end-of-life D-Tools System Integrator (SI). It continues as the enterprise-grade platform for the largest and most complex integrator operations. Your product and your support remain in place.
Will there be a forced migration between products?
No. There is no forced migration. Every customer stays on the product they signed up for, on their current terms. Over time, we expect some customers will choose to move between products as their business needs grow and change, and as we continue to develop and differentiate the three products we offer.
Can I use both Portal.io and D-Tools Cloud at the same time?
Yes. Nothing prevents an integrator from running Portal.io and D-Tools Cloud side by side, and many already do today. Your account team can walk you through what that looks like for your specific workflow.
Which platform should I be on?
For most integrators, the right platform today is the one you are already using. Portal.io is designed for speed, simplicity, and a beautiful client-facing proposal experience. D-Tools Cloud is designed for depth across the full workflow, including project management and scheduling. D-Tools SI is designed for enterprise-grade complexity. Your account team can help walk you through which fits your business best.
Should I wait to sign up if I am evaluating?
No. If you are evaluating either product today, please continue on that path. Whichever platform you land on, you will have the same commitment from us as any other customer.
Pricing and Support
Will my subscription pricing change?
Your current pricing continues under the terms of your existing agreement. As with any subscription business, pricing evolves over time, and any future changes will be communicated with appropriate notice.
Will my support team change?
No. Support continues from the teams you know today, at the same channels, hours, and quality standards you have relied on. Portal.io customers reach Portal.io support. D-Tools customers reach D-Tools support.
Do I need to sign a new contract?
No. Existing agreements continue unchanged.
Will there be bundled pricing for customers who use more than one product?
We do not have any bundled pricing to announce. Your current pricing continues under the terms of your existing agreement, and any future change would be communicated with appropriate notice.
Looking Ahead
Will the platforms be combined into one?
No decision has been made to combine them, and none is planned as part of this announcement. Portal.io, D-Tools Cloud, and D-Tools SI each continue to be developed and supported by the teams behind them today. Any product decisions from here will be customer-led. When we have a clearer forward path, we will communicate it early and directly.
What changes for the products right now?
Nothing. This announcement is about the two companies merging. Each product continues on its current path with the team that builds it, and both companies keep investing in what they already have underway, including the AI-driven capabilities each has in market. Product decisions for the combined portfolio come later and will be led by what integrators tell us they want.
What about AI?
Both companies have been investing in AI capabilities independently. Portal.io has AI proposal generation in production, and D-Tools has been investing in AI-native workflow features. The combined engineering team gives us more surface area and more data to accelerate what we can build.
What does this mean for product data?
D-Tools operates the industry's most comprehensive product data catalog, and Portal.io brings its own extensive managed catalog and established manufacturer relationships. Accurate, consistent, and current product information is critical to your day-to-day business, and it is one of the clearest assets the two companies bring together. Your catalog works exactly as it does today.

Existing manufacturer subscriptions continue during that transition, and our team will be in direct contact to walk through what changes and what does not.
What about partnerships with distributors and buying groups?
The combined company continues and expands its partnerships with distributors, buying groups, and industry associations. Both D-Tools and Portal.io have longstanding partner relationships in the channel, including shared memberships across major buying groups, and those relationships strengthen under the combined company.
